Nick Hardy’s opening round shot at the 3M Open was one of his best of the year.
Hardy played his first 17 golf holes in 5 under par after turning the corner with a 3-under-33 at TPC Twin Cities, Blaine, Minnesota. He made three birdies on the back nine and one bogey, the front nine of the course.
Hardy’s tee-shot landed in the rough on the right side of the par-4, 500-yard ninth hole, which was his 18th. Hardy’s ball landed just behind a large tree and left him with a nearly impossible shot to the green.
Hardy, however, was able get a full shot on it and hit a stunning shot. After his ball had hit the green it was 11 feet away from the hole.
Hardy’s club broke when it struck the tree behind him. It was fortunately his last hole for the day on Thursday.

Hardy said to the media that he knew when he hit it, it would be good. He caught it perfectly and he knew it would feel like it was going hook a bit. “I felt like I didn’t have to worry about that at all because I was only worried about carrying water. “Once I hit it, it was pretty good. ‘”
Hardy made the birdie and finished with a 6-under-par 65 in his first round. He is one shot behind the morning leader Hideki Matsuyama, who shot a 7 under 66.
