It would be a slight understatement to say that Rickie and Xander had a great start.
Both Californian players shot an 8-under-par 62 in the morning wave at the Los Angeles Country Club for the U.S. Open 2023. These scores are the lowest ever in the history of the U.S. Open. They also tied Branden Grace’s major championship record from the third round at the 2017 Open Championship, held at Royal Birkdale.
The best round in the first wave of the LACC was a 3-under-67 shot by Scottie Scheffler and Bryson deChambeau, among others.
