Christine Wolf shot 2-under 70 on Thursday, despite a three-putt on her last hole.
After a four-month absence from golf, the Austrian 33-year-old has resumed competition.
Wolf said, “I took some time off, and I traveled for the last four months, which was something I had always wanted to do but I didn’t want to stop playing golf.” I thought that I would come be prepared to return for this one, and continue playing the rest of the year.
Wolf was able to carry a 48-pound backpack on her trip and was happy to hand her bag to a caddie.
Wolf explained to the Ladies European Tour that she flew to Buenos Aires, where she stayed for a few days before heading to Chile. “There, we traveled all the way to Patagonia where we did some hiking, biking and even played a round golf.
“From there, we made our way northward through Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia – where we played a championship course at the highest altitude – then on to Colombia and Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua, El Salvador and Honduras and finally to Guatemala.
“It was difficult to pick the best part, as it was so varied and beautiful, and each country we visited was beautiful. The Galapagos Islands were my favourite thing. It was like being in a zoo for the entire day. But, the hikes around Patagonia or Machu Picchu were spectacular.
Wolf began the season at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open in February, where she placed 16th. Now, she plans to play three months on the Ladies European Tour. She says that her time off has helped her see things from a new perspective.
She said, “If you hit an awful shot, it’s just an unfortunate shot.” “I just enjoy being out here with my girls and having fun.”
