NAPLES (Florida) – Jin Young Ko won the Tiburon Golf Club’s CME Group Tour Championships in the past. If she could three-peat and win the $2 million record, she would buy a yellow Ferrari.
Ko, at 27 years old, won the CME last year in heroic fashion. He also won the Rolex Player Of The Year award, while playing pain. But that Ferrari is far from certain.
Ko is still suffering from the left wrist injury that prevented her from warming up for the event in 2021. She comes into this week after a missed cut, a withdrawal from BMW Ladies Championship and shocking rounds of 80-79. It’s worse than last year’s CME, but it’s better than last month at BMW. Ko stated that it is now a seven- or eight on a scale from 1-10, with 1 being the most severe. It was a two at BMW.
Every shot, she feels pain as soon as she touches the club.
She said that it was hard, but the only thing I could do was to tape on some tape and take medicine. I’m just trying to play. There is nothing to do.
Ko was unsure if she wanted to return to the U.S. to attend the two Florida events. She changed her flight so she could arrive earlier and arrived the Thursday before the Pelican Championship. She took some time off after missing the cut last week and was able to get out on the course on Tuesday.
Ko is a 13-time LPGA winner and has been ranked No. Ko has been ranked No. 1 for 145 weeks, since 2019. It’s not clear how long the injury will last. She’s just icing the injury this week, but she may try blood-spinning when she returns to South Korea. This is a treatment that reduces the healing time of an injury.
She said that she heard it was very painful, so she is worried.
Ko won the HSBC Women’s Champions in Singapore, her first event of the season. She hasn’t finished in the top 10 since July’s Amundi Evian Championship, when she was tied for eighth. Since the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open in July, she has not made it to the top 10.
Last year at this time, Nelly Korda was in the midst a promising rivalry. They traded blows until the end of the season with Ko winning.
However, injuries brought the rivalry to an abrupt halt. Korda was forced to take months off due to a blood clot scare which required surgery. Korda won the Pelican’s first LPGA title on Sunday.
Korda said that her health scare was “the most frightening” for her.
Ko agrees with Ko, noting that her problems are likely to be caused by excessive use.
Ko said, “I think a lot players has injury on the tour.” It’s my fault, this is my body.
Ko has fallen to No. Ko, who has dropped to No. 4 in the world said that this is the first time she has ever faced such adversity in her life. Although she believes that good things will come out of the struggle, it doesn’t lessen the pain.
Ko smiled when she was asked about the biggest challenge for the year.
