Jin Young Ko is back on the LPGA for the first time since August. Ko, who is ranked number one in the world, took some time to heal a left wrist injury. Ko is the defending champion of this week’s BMW Ladies Championship. However, the event will be held at Oak Valley Country Club in Wonju (South Korea).
Ko said that she was not able practice as much as she thought. However, when she did have time to practice, it was a time where I focused fully on those sessions.
“I am really into yoga these day, and I went the yoga center to learn yoga and that helped my mental side. The last two months have been a lot of that. I’m happy to be participating in the competition.
Six of the top 10 world players are on the field this week.
Ko stated that she took frequent breaks during her practice to protect her wrist, and also participated in acupuncture treatments.
Ko said that the weather had been warm for the past five- to six weeks, which made it not so painful. But today, it was colder. My wrist may be affected by the lower temperature and firmer grass. I won’t give up, and I will do my best to keep trying.”
Ko won the CME Group Tour Championship last year despite having so severe wrist pain she couldn’t even warm herself up prior to each round.
Ko is known for coming back strong even after long periods of inactivity. Her first LPGA start was as a member of the 2018 ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open.
Ko returned from an extended break due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 to win the season-ending title and play her way into CME Group Tour Championship.
Ko missed the AIG Women’s British Open last year to focus on her swing. She returned after more than a month to win her first Portland Classic start. To close out the season, she would win three more times.
Ko won her first start at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in March after a long offseason.
Ko is a 13-time LPGA winner. She last reached the top five on tour at the U.S. Women’s Open in June. She has been ranked No. She’s been ranked No. 1 for 38 weeks consecutively and 144 total.
Ko said, “I would lie if I claimed that there was no pressure to maintain that ranking.” But he added, “But I have to admit that I am more interested in practicing right now because I want more satisfaction with my golf than the title, the No. Ko. “I am surrounded by talented players, even though I didn’t initially think that that ranking would be forever,” said Ko.
