DETROIT – Tony Finau has won the Rocket Mortgage Classic PGA TOUR twice in a row. There is no way that Tony Finau would not be on the U.S. Presidents Cup Team. They will face the International Team at Quail Hollow Club Sept. 21-25. He knows he still has work to do, even though he shot 26 under par to win the Detroit Golf Club tournament. Because only six players will be selected for the team on points. U.S. Captain Davis Love III, who missed the cut at Rocket Mortgage, will pick the remaining six. Finau stated, “To make these teams is really difficult,” after defeating Patrick Cantlay and Taylor Pendrith by five. There are so many great players. Cameron Young was one of my favorite players. These guys are going to win a lot. They’re great golfers. For me, that’s why I set a goal to win these points every year.” Finau is ahead of a few other multiple winners in the Presidents Cup standings this season, including Sam Burns, Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele. Justin Thomas and Cantlay are also up there. Cantlay posted his TOUR-leading 10th place finish in Detroit. Finau, who has two wins in two weeks is now sixth in the standings just behind Thomas. The FedExCup Playoffs’ second FedExCup Championship will determine which six points are the best. Love will announce his six selections on Monday, August 29. Finau stated, “I have been selected in the past.” “One of my goals in life is to be a Presidents Cup player by points. The last two weeks have been crucial in my earning my spot. Everyone deserves a spot, but I want to be able to earn enough points to qualify for the team. I have a few more tournaments to prove myself.”
