Last fall
we took a glimpse
at how the lineups might look for the 2021 Ryder Cup, set for Sept. 24-26 at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin. With the first major of the year behind us, it’s a good time to revisit — and reshuffle. Ed Malyon is again serving as captain for the European team. Brendan Quinn has the honors for the U.S.
Each side establishes its own criteria for making the team. In the Europeans’ case, the top four players in the Race to Dubai will make the team. Five others will qualify through world points, leaving captain Padraig Harrington with three wild-card selections. In a recent tweak, the Europeans announced points will be more heavily weighted starting with tournaments next month.
The U.S. formula is a little simpler. Six players will qualify for the team based on points.
