Golf is an odd game.
The PIF Saudi International is an Asian Tour event, which features LIV Golf players as well as a few PGA Tour pros. But it’s a 15 year old who’s stealing all the attention at the top of the leaderboard.
Ratchanon Chantananuwat from Thailand, ranked 16th on the World Amateur Golf Ranking is currently 7 under and four shots behind the leader heading into the weekend at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club, Saudi Arabia. Abraham Ancer leads the field for the second day straight, while Cameron Young, the PGA Tour’s Rookie of The Year for 2021-22 is a shot behind.
Chantananuwat stated that one of the reasons that I played so well today was because I had no expectations. He also said that he was not looking at leaderboards. Ironically, when I began to look at leaderboard on 8 and when cameras arrived, I found myself not being as sharp. I think I will just try to shut down tomorrow, Sunday, and keep my head down.
Cameron Smith (2 over), who is ranked third in Official World Golf Ranking, will be returning home, having missed the cut (even), with Phil Mickelson (1 and), Bryson deChambeau (7 and) as well as Bubba Watson (2 and).
Marc Leishman, Louis Oosthuizen, and Sadom Kaewkanjana are tied for third at 8-under. They are chasing Ancer who shot 66 Friday, after opening with a 7 under 63.
Young has now set consecutive 5-under 65s since the beginning.
