Luke Donald has seen it throughout his golf career.
The Englishman arrived in America to study college. He won the individual title at 1999 NCAA Championship at Northwestern and the Haskins Award for top college golfer of the Year.
Donald became a professional golfer in 2001, when he won his first five PGA Tour victories at the 2002 Southern Farm Bureau Classic. The event was shortened by weather to 54 holes. He has seven DP World Tour victories, including the first at the Scandinavian Masters 2004. Donald’s greatest victories include the 2011 WGCAccenture Match Play Championship, as well as a pair BMW PGA Championships in 2011 & 2012.
He was the first player to be ranked on both the PGA Tour’s and DP World Tour’s money lists in the same calendar year 2011, and was also named player-of-the-year for both tours. Donald was ranked No. 1 for 56 weeks. Donald joined Lee Westwood, a fellow countryman, as the only players to be ranked the world’s No. 1 player without having won a major.
After Stenson joined LIV Golf Invitational Series, Donald was appointed as Henrik Stenson’s replacement for 2023 Ryder Cup matches. The 44-year old Englishman represented Europe in 2006, 2010, and 2012. He also served as vice captain in the previous two Ryder Cups. Donald has a record of 10-4-1 in the competition and is now set to become the first Englishman to captain the Europeans since Nick Faldo (2008).
