Albert Pujols, a baseball star who was still playing for the Los Angeles Angels in 2013, suffered from plantar fasciitis and said that he had considered making a drastic change to his morning routine.
Pujols stated that it was almost easier to go to the toilet in bed than to get up, USA TODAY Sports. It’s very painful in the morning.
Pujols is just one of the many recent victims. Tiger Woods, who was suffering from the injury, pulled out of the Hero World Challenge this week. He said it was too difficult to walk.
Although there isn’t much data to show that this is more common in professional athletes, there has been a lot of discussion among the athletes and orthopedic medical professionals about the fact that plantar fasciitis is now more prevalent among pro athletes than it was among weekend warriors.
Robert Klapper was the television’s orthopedic consultant and co-host of ESPN Radio’s Weekend Warriors. He had a few theories about what he said to USA TODAY Sports 2013: “An explosion of overuse injuries such as plantar fasciitis.”
Klapper stated that he believes sports specialization early in life is leading to a loss of natural cross-training, and more injuries due to repetitive movements.
In the past, it was not uncommon for a young star to play three sports, such as football, basketball or baseball. Young athletes who excel in one sport often play the same sport year round on travel or all-star teams. There is also a lot more time on the computer or watching TV. The two-sport star, such as basketball or video games, is becoming more common.
Klapper stated, “Cross-training can be so valuable and it used to come quite naturally.” “We have lost that.”
Here is a quick overview of the condition as well as possible causes, treatment options, and prevention tips.
