Steve Flesch birdied the first four holes on Sunday, but his best birdie of week was the closing hole at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Flesch bogeyed 12th and 13th holes, but made a par on the par-5 18,th to win the PGA Tour Champions Pure Insurance Championship Improving First Tee. He beat Steven Alker, Ernie Els and Paul Stankowski.
His score of 11 under earned him his third win in the senior circuit, and second season. The left-handed player won four times on PGA Tour.
Alker parred the 17th, and Flesch made the best of it.
Flesch stated that while there are not many chances to win, Steven allowed me to play 18 and gave me an opportunity to hit a great wedge shot. It ran the putt in but it meant more to me as every professional wants to win at Pebble Beach. And it was just a lot fun. I persevered all day. I had a great start to the day. But winning at Pebble Beach is every professional golfer’s dream.

It’s one of those things. You can see people winning at Augusta and you can imagine people winning at Pebble Beach. Pebble Beach has a lot of history. It’s one of the places that you want to win. It’s a great honor to have the chance to do it today. Even though we are older and play better golf than ever, these guys are still great and it’s difficult to win. It’s just so special to win at Pebble Beach.
Alker shot 68,69,69 to tie for second. He bounced back from his tie at the Sanford International for 58th last week. This was his lowest finish on the Champions tour in 28 appearances. Alker’s final round score of 76 at Sanford was his worst on the tour.
He said, “I struggled last weekend with my game, especially down the stretch. Then, I just kind of got it all together this week.” “I like playing here. I put it all together and gave myself a chance. Today was a great start.
