“Conversations With Champions, presented By Sentry” is a weekly series by Golfweek, in collaboration with The Caddie Network. It features a conversation with the winner caddie at the most recent PGA Tour tournament. Aaron Flener is the caddie for J.T. Poston at 2022 John Deere Classic.
J.T. Poston is dialed into.
Poston was a wire-towire winner at 2022 John Deere Classic and came in with a tie for second at the Travelers Championship. Things are certainly looking up.
Poston’s campaign opened in 2021-22 with six consecutive missed cuts. He has missed 14 of the 24 cuts this season. But that’s over now.
Flener said that he had a slow start to the fall, missed every cut, and only had a few top 25s at the beginning of the year. But nothing exceptional,” John Rathouz, The Caddie Network, told Flener.
His consistent work with his swing coach has paid off.
Flener stated that “Finally, his golf swing just clicked in” and that he no longer has to think about it. He can simply go out and play golf.
Poston’s greatest asset is his ability to keep an even-keeled mindset.
Flener stated that Flener is a “man who never gets too high and never gets too low.” “I’m kinda like you, too,” Flener said.
His caddie, however, is not the only one who notices his calm, cool demeanor.
“I believe the beauty of J.T. He never gets too high with highs and too low with lows. “He just kind of stays pretty stable,” Zach Johnson, a two-time major champion, said.
Poston’s second PGA Tour victory earned him one of the remaining spots at the 150th Open Championship next Thursday. He was also able to play in a few other important events.
Flener stated that he didn’t think about the Open while we were playing on Sunday. “I was thinking about the Open throughout the week, because I knew there were three spots. So I was thinking about that. When we finished Sunday, I thought “We’re in The Masters.” Oh year, the Tournament of Champions, which is amazing.
Poston will not be competing at the Genesis Scottish Open this weekend, nor in the Barbasol Championship in Kentucky. Flener can now take care of some chores before he hits the road.
