BINGHAMTON (New York) — After a dark year and a modified version last summer the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open celebrates its return to normalcy at En-Joie Golf Course.
The 50-and-over stars are aligned to compete for $2.1 Million in prize money at a municipal course that will be hosting PGA Tour-sanctioned Golf for the 51st Time.
Competition will begin Friday morning. The conclusion of play, if everything goes according to script, will be around 5:30 Sunday in Endicott.
Except for the use of digital tickets which is becoming more popular in the entertainment and sports industries, there will be no relics of last year’s ticketing model. In 2021, the COVID precautions limit was set at 5,000 per day. Friday’s Old Dominion concert was included in the limit. There were no exceptions to the $500 all inclusive package.
The field is now complete — entry closes Friday at 5 p.m. Participants in the $2.1million PGA Tour Champions event will be:
Steven Alker is the top earner on the PGA Tour Champions’ 2022 earnings with $2,321,361. Alex Cejka has three top-four finishes in this season’s season.
* Darren Clarke, the winner of last month’s Senior British Open.
* Ernie Els, second-placed by a stroke in his Dick’s Open debut.
* Jim Furyk was a 17-time winner of the regular tour and a three-time winner as well as runner-up in 2020-21.
* Padraig Hrrington, twice-winner of the British Open and this year’s U.S. Open champion.
Miguel Angel Jimenez is a 10-time top-10 finisher who won the Boeing Classic last weekend.
* Bernhard Langer (43-time PGA Tour Champions Winner) who won the 2014 Dick’s Open.
Els shared via Twitter that “I had an amazing time last year, and you had a fantastic champion, Cameron Beckman.” “… I look forward to returning and enjoying the course and the people. The Dick’s tournament is world-class in every way.
The field of 78 players will be completed today at The Links At Hiawatha Landing, Apalachin.
Since 2007, the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open was played in Endicott every year. However, the 2020 event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Only one Dick’s Open wrapup round has ever been played later than this week’s Aug. 21 close. This was in 2015. On Aug. 30, Jeff Maggert won by two strokes over Paul Goydos. It was his fourth win in a span of 10 starts. As an astute columnist, he wrote, “… quite well Langerian or back in that day, Irwinian.”
The UHS Golf Expo, featuring Bernhard Langer, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame and PGA Tour Champions legend, is a pre-competition treat. It will be Wednesday and Langer’s presentation will take place in the 6:15 pm range on the 18th Green.
