Charles Barkley and Shaquille Oleal are two of the most popular television duos. The NBA Hall of Fame hosts ‘Inside the NBA,’ a TNT show that showcases the best pre- and post-game shows.
Barkley nearly gave up on his attempt to commentate basketball and enter the world of golf.
For a while, rumors circulated about Barkley’s interest to join LIV Golf as another commentator for its broadcasts. These broadcasts don’t have a TV sponsorship and are aired on YouTube. Barkley participated in the pro-am at last week’s third LIV Golf event at Trump Bedminster, New Jersey. He told Golfweek that he had not received an offer to join LIV Golf.
Following the 150th Open Championship, David Feherty stated that he would be joining LIV Golf as a broadcaster. Barkley would have added another vibrant, dynamic voice to the broadcast. It would also take away what has been a great pairing between O’Neal & Barkley.
Did Shaq attempt to talk Sir Charles out?
“No. Charles is a dear friend. In an interview with USA Today, O’Neal stated that he would have supported Charles in every way possible. “Charles is a legend, like Bill Russell. He didn’t make much money playing. If you have a chance like this at your age, it’s legal. It’s controversial but legal. I would not be mad if he accepted it.
“And if Charles had gone? “You’d still have my hand.”
