Brooke Henderson won her second major title and first in six year’s at the Amundi Evian Championship two weeks ago. She then quickly pulled out of Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open to recharge.
Unplanned, she took a week off to visit a few castles in Scotland and to practice at Carnoustie (site of the last year’s AIG Women’s British Open).
For the first time, this year’s British Open will take place at Muirfield. Muirfield hosted 16 British Opens for men since 1892. The club welcomed its first female member in 275 years just three years ago. The 2016 champion joins a long list of 16 men who won Opens at Muirfield including Walter Hagen and Harry Vardon.
Henderson is the Canadian’s winningest golfer, male or female. She played nine holes at Muirfield Sunday night and 18, Monday morning. She said that it was her favorite links course.
Henderson said, “I love the feeling and the look of it.” I mentioned the amazing views of the water, which are really cool. It can be seen from many different places, which is really cool.

Henderson, who has yet to finish in the top 10 at the British, isn’t quite as popular as you might think. Brittany, her older sister, will be a great help in helping her navigate the course, which was originally designed by Old Tom Morris.
Henderson said, “I’m very much a feel player.” That way, I feel we make a great team. These two methods work well together.”
